Finding Peace in my Life

So happy winter hasn’t come early this time around because I have been taking more walks in my local park. I have a thing for nature so it is soothing for me to feel the chill breeze against my skin and the crunch of the dry leaves under my shoes. This is one of the places where I find peace. For those who don’t know, my dad is sick with prostate cancer as well as heart problems. So I have been dealing with that along with my last semester as an undergraduate and my part time job.

When you are going through a rough patch in your life, it is important to try to find peace somewhere and make time for yourself. It will bring you back to what is really important, which is yourself and your mental state. Others can not tell you that you are not the first priority, because if your mind is not at peace..there will be chaos. I have had a few moments when my family members try to make me feel guilty with me being selfish with my time. There is nothing wrong with being selfish with you and your time. At the end of the day, you have to find balance. Which is what I am trying to do now.

It is okay to; go for a walk, hang out with your friends all day, un-plug from your electronics or have a drink if need be. If that is what gives you peace then so be it. The key is to be moderate. Ever since I was informed about daddy’s health, I became more fatigued, stress, gained more headaches and sometimes I just detach myself because his health has been in the back of my mind. So right now, I am taking the time to destress and spend time with my support group who have been riding along this bumpy road with me. That’s all I can do because at the end of the day, its in God’s hands.
