I know I haven’t been on here for a little while. There has been a lot going on lately with me but I just wanted to stop by and give you a little bit of how 2016 went for me. I also tell you what I plan to do in 2017!
So here goes…
2016 had its ups and downs for me. I will start with what good happened. My parents got remarried so that was a blessing. I am happy they were able to find happiness again with each other. I was able to travel a little bit this year which was great! I went to Jamaica over the summer in June which was a lot of fun. The atmosphere, the food and the people there were amazing! The food tasted so good and a lot different from American food, probably because there aren’t any hormones or GMOs in their food. For example, tasting a simple fruit like a pineapple tantalized my tastes buds so much better. I can go on and on about the food! The most daring thing I did in Jamaica was zip lining in Negril which was a bit scary but a lot of fun! I would definitely go zip lining again because I really enjoyed it. Good thing I am not afraid of heights either!
Festivals are always a thing in the summer and I was able to go to two of them; CurlFest and AfroPunk. CurlFest was an awesome free event for women with natural hair. Of course you had to pay for food but it was really a home for me. A natural hair blogger named Jennell B. Stewart was there and I got to talk to her for a bit. She is really a sweet woman and I am blessed that I got to meet her. I can’t wait to see her again!
Afropunk was a good festival as well, Ceelo Green performed and that was amazing! I got to meet so many different personalities there and I met another natural hair blogger, Klassy Kinks also known as Ijeoma Eboh. We chit chatted a little bit before I explored the rest of the festival. AfroPunk is a place where black people can feel free to express themselves and I loved it. There were so many afros, I couldn’t count! Unfortunately, I don’t plan on going next summer 2017. It turned out to be really expensive for me and my boyfriend. The security wouldn’t let you leave and come back to get food. You are basically forced to eat there. So I ended up spending over $50 on food and drinks alone. I was not happy about that at all. You are not allowed to bring food in to save money. I appreciate the trip but thats something I will have to go every other year.
Fortunately, not too many bad things happened this year besides my dad falling ill with prostate cancer and heart issues. He’s been going back and forth to the hospital. He is doing well to stay strong and to stay positive but his open heart surgery hasn’t been scheduled yet. Thats the only thing he’s nervous about but he has a supportive family. We are doing what we can for him and praying for a longer life for him.
2017, I pray that it will be a better year for me and my family. I plan to have a lot more fun than I had last summer. I also started my personal fitness regimen for a healthy journey. I want to slim down by the end of 2017, so I am excited for what this journey has in store for me. New Year Resolutions aren’t my thing. I am positive that 2017 will be a good year for me, I just have to wait and see.
Cheers for 2017!!
