Lately I have been adding a lot more greens in my diet and like to make my signature spinach salad sometimes for lunch. The recipe is very simple!
- Spinach or Spinach mix
- baby tomatoes
- cucumbers (if you like)
- shredded cheddar cheese
- Salad Vinaigrette dressing (or any dressing of your choice)
What to do:
- Wash off the vegetables and fruit well
- Cut up the cucumbers and strawberries
- mix the vegetables and fruit together in the bowl of your choice
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top
- Drizzle the vinaigrette on top
- Eat and enjoy!
The salad is that simple and easy to make! What salad you like to make at home?
Since 2017 has started, I have been making a lot more healthy eating habits. I have to say I feel so good about my decision because my body feels better. My body doesn’t feel slow or sluggish, it has more energy and my mind is sharper as well. I eat more veggies and fruit now with a balance of lean meats and grains of course. Sometimes, I go for meatless meals like a bean burger or lentil soup. The gym or taking some Yoga and Zumba classes has been in my routine as well to stay active. The goal here is to obviously lose some weight but I want to live an overall healthy life to the best of my ability. And I am loving the little changes I am making with my life.
Also, I cook more as well! I will put out some recipes when I do cook!
Went to visit Rockefeller Center in New York during New Years Eve and I am happy I went! I had so much fun with my family and my boyfriend! I saw the big Christmas Tree for the first time.
Happy New Year Everyone!
I have been thinking a lot lately and I was thinking about how my health is as well as my eating habits. For the past few years, I haven’t really been eating too great because of college. Being so focused on studying made me forget about my eating habits and what should I be eating more of. Because I noticed my body is either always tired or sluggish because my eating habits are crappy. I do eat fruits and vegetables that are available to me at home but I never made it a mission to treat my body to more nourishment. So that’s what I really want to focus on starting this year. This is not because I want a hot summer body but I want to live a long and thriving life. If I take care of my body, it will take care of me right? I have been working out at the gym and eating better for about 3 weeks now since I started in the middle of December. My body is starting to feel better already and I am happy with my progress so far! I am taking baby steps until I am able to go through it full force!
-To good Health and Wellness!
I know I haven’t been on here for a little while. There has been a lot going on lately with me but I just wanted to stop by and give you a little bit of how 2016 went for me. I also tell you what I plan to do in 2017!
So here goes…
2016 had its ups and downs for me. I will start with what good happened. My parents got remarried so that was a blessing. I am happy they were able to find happiness again with each other. I was able to travel a little bit this year which was great! I went to Jamaica over the summer in June which was a lot of fun. The atmosphere, the food and the people there were amazing! The food tasted so good and a lot different from American food, probably because there aren’t any hormones or GMOs in their food. For example, tasting a simple fruit like a pineapple tantalized my tastes buds so much better. I can go on and on about the food! The most daring thing I did in Jamaica was zip lining in Negril which was a bit scary but a lot of fun! I would definitely go zip lining again because I really enjoyed it. Good thing I am not afraid of heights either!
Festivals are always a thing in the summer and I was able to go to two of them; CurlFest and AfroPunk. CurlFest was an awesome free event for women with natural hair. Of course you had to pay for food but it was really a home for me. A natural hair blogger named Jennell B. Stewart was there and I got to talk to her for a bit. She is really a sweet woman and I am blessed that I got to meet her. I can’t wait to see her again!
Afropunk was a good festival as well, Ceelo Green performed and that was amazing! I got to meet so many different personalities there and I met another natural hair blogger, Klassy Kinks also known as Ijeoma Eboh. We chit chatted a little bit before I explored the rest of the festival. AfroPunk is a place where black people can feel free to express themselves and I loved it. There were so many afros, I couldn’t count! Unfortunately, I don’t plan on going next summer 2017. It turned out to be really expensive for me and my boyfriend. The security wouldn’t let you leave and come back to get food. You are basically forced to eat there. So I ended up spending over $50 on food and drinks alone. I was not happy about that at all. You are not allowed to bring food in to save money. I appreciate the trip but thats something I will have to go every other year.
Fortunately, not too many bad things happened this year besides my dad falling ill with prostate cancer and heart issues. He’s been going back and forth to the hospital. He is doing well to stay strong and to stay positive but his open heart surgery hasn’t been scheduled yet. Thats the only thing he’s nervous about but he has a supportive family. We are doing what we can for him and praying for a longer life for him.
2017, I pray that it will be a better year for me and my family. I plan to have a lot more fun than I had last summer. I also started my personal fitness regimen for a healthy journey. I want to slim down by the end of 2017, so I am excited for what this journey has in store for me. New Year Resolutions aren’t my thing. I am positive that 2017 will be a good year for me, I just have to wait and see.
Cheers for 2017!!
Lately I purchased the booked titled The Couple Next Door and I am loving every page of it. It is such a good read and suspenseful. Its about a couple ( who are new parents) that went to a party next door to them as they leave their 6 month old baby alone at home. Then out of now where this child goes missing and the police is trying to figure out who did the crime. I recommend this book!
Any book suggestions? Leave it in the comments below!
This past Monday, folks got re-married to reunite with each other. They didn’t feel like they needed a fancy wedding to do so because they did it for free at our local courthouse. And I thought was very nice. I noticed many young couples getting married on that same day as well and they were so happy about it. It made me think about couples who spend over 20k to have their wedding, just for their marriage license. If you think about it, at the end of the day the marriage is way more important than the wedding itself because your bond with your spouse should be your main concern. Well at least for me, my marriage is way more important. I am a very simple girl. I would ideally like my wedding under 10k or just wont have a wedding at all just go to the courthouse. Depending how I feel, because at the end of the day its just a party. I am not knocking on those who splurge on their wedding, it is your day but think about what is really important to you.
What are your thoughts folks?
So happy winter hasn’t come early this time around because I have been taking more walks in my local park. I have a thing for nature so it is soothing for me to feel the chill breeze against my skin and the crunch of the dry leaves under my shoes. This is one of the places where I find peace. For those who don’t know, my dad is sick with prostate cancer as well as heart problems. So I have been dealing with that along with my last semester as an undergraduate and my part time job.
When you are going through a rough patch in your life, it is important to try to find peace somewhere and make time for yourself. It will bring you back to what is really important, which is yourself and your mental state. Others can not tell you that you are not the first priority, because if your mind is not at peace..there will be chaos. I have had a few moments when my family members try to make me feel guilty with me being selfish with my time. There is nothing wrong with being selfish with you and your time. At the end of the day, you have to find balance. Which is what I am trying to do now.
It is okay to; go for a walk, hang out with your friends all day, un-plug from your electronics or have a drink if need be. If that is what gives you peace then so be it. The key is to be moderate. Ever since I was informed about daddy’s health, I became more fatigued, stress, gained more headaches and sometimes I just detach myself because his health has been in the back of my mind. So right now, I am taking the time to destress and spend time with my support group who have been riding along this bumpy road with me. That’s all I can do because at the end of the day, its in God’s hands.
Thanks for reading.
Y’all remember these cookies back in the day? I found these cookies at ShopRite and I was so happy! These are good with tea or coffee. Thank God I found them!
This cafe is really cute and nifty, unfortunately its on the pricey side when it comes to food but its a nice place to sit. Also, this place doesn’t not allow outside food so you can’t bring your own lunch. My boyfriend and I got kicked out when we tried. But its a cute place to have a date!
I was dying to make a New York trip this weekend, to get some writing inspiration. This Saturday was the best day to go. The weather was cool and the atmosphere was nice and busy as usual. Man, I love New York.
